A List of User Interface Changes in iOS 8 Beta 3

Apple this week released third beta of iOS 8, it isnt differ from its predecessor beta 2, so is contain a number of improvements, changes, and bug fixes.

In addition to improve the performance of operating system, iOS 8 beta 3 also includes a set of minor interface tweaks and modifications, that makes iOS 8 more polished. well show a list of these changes that have been traded so far.

Find My iPhone: Beta 3 includes a new beta version of Find My iPhone and Find My Friends, and according to release notes Find My Friends will allow users to move their friends list to the iCloud account if necessary.

iCloud Drive: Theres a new popup screen appears in beta 3 giving users the option to upgrade to iCloud Drive, and shows the privileges that will obtain. iCloud Drive lets users store any type of file, the feature introduced at WWDC.

iCloud Drive Settings: Now theres a special section for iCloud Drive settings forked from iCloud menu, which is accessed from Settings app.

Handoff: theres a new toggle in the General section allowing users to enable or disable Handoff, the feature allows users to continue their work and transfer tasks "like calls" from any device using iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite to other, this process is done via iCould.

QuickType Keyboard: Keyboards menu has received a new option allowing users to toggle QuickType on and off. You can access Keyboards menu from General section under Settings app.

Weather: There are some modifications at the displaying way of informations that the app introduced.

Wallpapers: iOS 8 beta 3 brought new wallpapers to default wallpaper gallery.

App Analytics: theres a new option into the app allowing users to share crash data and statistics about how apps are used with app developers.

Photos app: Shared Photo Streams are renamed to become Shared Albums. Events and albums from Aperture are now available again in the Photos app as well. Additionally, items in Recently Deleted album is received a new indicator shows the time remaining to delete a photo permanently.

Messages: These is a new option in Messages section when enable it automatically keep video and audio messages, that are normally deleted after a short period.

Custom Keyboards: Now if you tap and hold on the Globe key, youll get an option allowing you to enable or disable QuickType, also the ability to switch between other keyboards language. For developers are now able to move the cursor location with a custom keyboard in iOS 8 beta 3.

WiFi Calling: Now T-Mobile users can access WiFi calling, as the first carrier support this feature. WiFi calling lets users make phone calls over WiFi instead of using a Cellular connection, in iOS 8 beta 3 theres an option allowing you to enable the feature, that through Phone section, we get it from Settings app. The feature also requires users to enter an emergency address.

The public release of iOS 8 will be this fall likely with announcement of new iPhone versions. Is expected to see other beta updates, that are directed to developers.

Precisions about XiaoMi Mi 3 pre orders

The last few weeks, we got a lot of questions about XiaoMi Mi 3 and if PhonAsia is going to offer pre-orders.

We are talking to our partners to secure a minimum quantity of Mi 3 because there will be a shortage for sure but some things are still unclear.

First things first :

- only the black model will be available until further notice from XiaoMi

- 16 and 64 GB will be offered for pre-orders

- PhonAsia wants to secure only Snapdragon S800 version because the Tegra 4 version WILL NOT be compatible with any 3G network outside of China

After securing a few Mi 3, we finally turn back our shipment because those XiaoMi Mi 3 were only Tegra 4 version. We asked some questions and an internal source told us that it will be most likely that the Snapdragon S800 version might be delayed 2 weeks at the very least.

China Mobile is the world largest carrier, so XiaoMi has to prioritize its supply chain and very few Snapdragon S800 will be produced.

We were also able to cross our source with several others like ctechcn.com claiming that the S800 version might be on sale only in November instead of October.

PhonAsia will only offer pre-orders if we can be sure to deliver the S800 on time. A 2 weeks time frame before the actual S800 availability seems to be the most reasonable move.

We are still unsure but we are aiming at a price tag around $400-450.

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 with 5.2-inch display, Android 4.3 launched

Samsung has announced the successor to the Galaxy Grand, the Galaxy Grand 2. The South Korean handset maker has not revealed the price for Galaxy Grand 2 and has also not announced the availability details for the smartphone.The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box. The Galaxy Grand 2 is a dual-SIM device with support for GSM+GSM. It features a 5.2-inch HD TFT display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels.

The Galaxy Grand 2 is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor alongside 1.5GB of RAM. It sports an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera accompanied by an LED flash. It also houses a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. It comes with 8GB inbuilt storage, which is further expandable up to 64GB via microSD card.

Connectivity options on the Galaxy Grand 2 include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ AGPS, micro-USB and 3G (HSPA+).
The smartphone measures 146.8x75.3x8.9mm and weighs about 163 grams. The Galaxy Grand 2 packs a 2600mAh battery that can deliver up to 17 hours of talktime, although no standby time detailed.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 will be available in Black, Pink and White colour variants in select regions.
Samsung has decided to pre-load the Galaxy Grand 2 with some some of the popular apps seen on flagship smartphones, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, like Story Album, which can organise pictures by timelines; S Translator, companys proprietary translation service; S Travel, which offers guides and travel details; Samsung Hub, companys own content service that offers access to music, videos and games. The phone also comes with Group Play, a feature first seen on Galaxy S4, which lets users play music or games together, as well as share documents.

iOS 6 1 3 Untethered Jailbreak

iOS 6.1.3 Untethered Jailbreak? well, consider the following.

This also suggest that brilliant hackers are already working on a potential jailbreak for the next iOS version (iOS 7) as seen in the tweet of pod2g and p0sixninja
From all indications, all hands are on deck to produce the next jailbreak for the next version of iOS and hopefully, we wont have to wait so long before we see it when Apple finally releases iOS 7 come June 2013 along with the new iPhone.

iOS 6.1.3 untethered jailbreak is therefore not coming as seen from the above statements. Furthermore, personally, I think it will be a waste of exploits. Let us wait for the next version of iOS and get a good jailbreak ready.

Samsung has silently launched in Germany a variant of the recently released Galaxy Ace 4, priced at EUR 199 (approximately Rs. 15,500), called the Galaxy Ace Style LTE or Galaxy Ace 4 (SM-G357FZ). The smartphone now packs a Super AMOLED display instead of TFT, apart from other upgrades. Despite the name, the smartphone bears more resemblance to the Galaxy Ace 4 LTE rather than the Galaxy Ace Style.

The Galaxy Ace Style LTE, listed on Samsung Germany, features a larger 4.3-inch (480x800 pixels) Super AMOLED display (compared to the 4-inch (480x800 pixels) TFT LCD display on the Galaxy Ace 4 which was launched in June. The device now packs a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, coupled with 1GB of RAM.

Previously, the company had launched two variants, the Galaxy Ace 4 LTE and Galaxy Ace 4 (3G), powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (with 1GB of RAM) and a 1GHz dual-core processor (with 512MB of RAM) respectively.

Other specifications of the single-SIM (Micro-SIM) Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 (SM-G357FZ) include a 5-megapixel (CMOS sensor) rear camera with flash; a 1.3-megapixel (CMOS sensor) front camera; 4GB inbuilt storage which is expandable via microSD card (up to 64GB); 128.9x65.8x9.1mm dimensions; 126 grams weight; 1900mAh battery, and Android 4.4 KitKat. On the connectivity front, the Galaxy Ace 4 (SM-G357FZ) also supports 4G LTE FDD (Cat. 4) network along with 3G, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and GPS/ A-GPS.

As yet, the smartphone appears to only be available in Germany, and there is no word on its global release. Notably, Samsung hasnt launched the Galaxy Ace 4 in India and had only revealed the price for it in Europe - EUR 219 (approximately Rs. 17,800).

25 000 Xiaomi Mi 3 Phones to Be Offered to Flipkart Customers Who Couldnt Buy Earlier

Xiaomi India and Flipkart on Saturday announced a special festive surprise for consumers who failed to buy the Xiaomi Mi 3 smartphones despite repeated attempts. The company is offering a chance to purchase Mi 3 to 25,000 consumers who unsuccessfully tried to purchase the device at least five times or more in previous flash sales.

According to Xiaomi, these 25,000 consumers will find the device added to their cart on Flipkart.com on October 6, without having to register or hit the buy button, as was the practice followed during flash sales.

Consumers will be intimated directly on October 5, if they have been selected, and upon selection they will have about one to two hours on October 6 to purchase the Xiaomi Mi 3. If some of the consumers do not buy the Mi 3 in the given time, then the device will be offered to a second batch of selected customers on the same day.

The company added via Twitter that this will be the last chance to buy the Xiaomi Mi 3 in India.

Xiaomi Vice President, Hugo Barra had talked about this new system of sales called the Xiaomi Priority Pass at an event in Bangalore last month.

Since the first flash sale of the Mi 3, Xiaomi had faced a lot of criticism from potential customers, with people frustrated about the fact that they had to faced difficulties such as orders being cancelled immediately after being booked, or simply finding that the phone went out of stock in the time it took for the buy button to show up on their screens.

Along with the offer on Saturday, Xiaomi India has also announced that it has sold out more than 3,00,000 Mi phones - Xiaomi Mi 3 and Xiaomi Redmi 1S - since its launch in India two months back. The company did not give a breakup of the sales at this time, but its known that the company sold around 1,00,000 Mi 3 units, so the split is roughly 1:2 between the Mi 3 and the Redmi 1S .

Manu Jain, GM and Head of India Operations at Xiaomi said, "We would like to pay tribute to our most passionate fans through this little gift of recognising their passion for our products. Even though they have repeatedly tried to get the device and failed, their determination to get Mi 3 clearly sets them apart as fans that any brand would be lucky to have. We do recognise this and have taken this initiative to provide them direct access to purchase the Mi 3. We wish all our fans a happy Dussehra, Eid, and Diwali, and thank them for their love and support."
